Where to start with this recap of the past week or so of my life...
I guess I'll begin with a roadtrip that I took nearly 10 days ago to the armpit of America- Iowa. This trip was not by choice, but rather it was a 22-hour round trip on a coach bus for 2 road games against teams that I hate. My goal was, as always, to dominate, but for some reason these two teams chose to make this difficult for me. So I had to bust out "The Villain." The Villain is my ulterior personality that I am able to slip into when and if I am provoked. In short- I was provoked. I love being provoked for a few reasons: 1) I play better when I'm pissed off, 2) I am way bigger and stronger than any of the guys on the other team, and 3) I am way smarter than those idiots and I can get in their head. Thus, I began to villainize everyone in my path saying sweet nothing to them as they walk by me on the court, talking dirty about their girlfriends, and just being downright mean to them. I was so successful in fact that I was able to set up an opponent and draw a technical foul. The situation was even more beneficial for me because I got to stand over his teammate after he fouled me, fell to the ground, and watched the ball roll into the basket. I further villafied the lady at the scorer's table when she decided it was a good time to talk about how wrong it was for me to do that to that young man when I was less than five feet away. So while the technical free throws were being shot by my amigo (who is a much better free throw shooter than I), I chose to stare at her and make the situation as uncomfortable as possible for her for roughly a 2 minute stretch. She was legitimately scared I think, so I decided to move my attack back to the people I actually hated, the other team, and by default, the refs.
The rest of the weekend followed suit, and I was consistently as mean, or meaner, to my next opponent. Cheap shots were a staple of the second game as several of my teammates decided to get involved in the ugliness that the game turned into. We proved to be the meaner team, and pulled out a win. However, in games which I am forced to bust out the villain and we win, I also bust out a 3rd personality - one of a gracious winner bidding the best of luck to the losers on the rest of their season, sending side hugs, back pats, and dap-ups while going through the handshake line. I think opponents hate that personality more than the villain.
The next 5 days blur together due to immense amounts of anticipation for the weekend. A weekend in which we would play two home games- winning the first in double overtime to a team we should have beaten by 25 in regular time, and losing the second in overtime after giving up a 25-point lead at halftime. Immense amounts of frustration threatened to ruin the weekend, but I knew there was hope. Hope in the colors of green and gold.
Yes, I am choosing now to focus on the highlight of my weekend, the highlight of my year to this date, and quite possibly the highlight of the last 14 years of my life. A Packer victory in the NFC Championship game against the Chicago Bears. Is there anything as sweet? Let me tell you the answer is NOT A CHANCE!
I chose not to bust out the Villain during the game in advance, due to amigos (like Goldfinger) who had their hearts vested in the game which they were destined to lose. It wasn't long til I was filled with pure and unbridled joy that the Green Bay Packers were surely going to win the NFC and continue on the road to becoming world champions in the Super Bowl.
It is safe to say that I remain in this euphoric state, and plan on continued happiness for the next two weeks. How can anything really be that bad when the Packers are in the Super Bowl?
Until next time...
